Doves are often thought to be representatives of heaven or the afterlife, and frequently, the dove can be a symbol of Spirit, meant to bring peace and comfort. Doves are all a part of the Columbidae family of birds. They are a symbol of peace and good luck in astrology and in many cultures and religions. 

With over 300 species in the family, they are found all over the world in many different habitats. In many beliefs dove feathers are seen as a divine message or spiritual realm. As a guidance, wisdom, or a nudge towards spiritual growth. 

Protection and safety - doves are known for their gentle nature, and finding a feather might represent protection, safety or a need for self care. In its flight, the dove carries a profound symbolism of delivering messages of positivity and encouragement. The spiritual energy of the dove encourages us to be messengers of hope, to extend love and compassion to those in need, and to offer healing and solace to those who are suffering.

In Christian Iconography, a dove also symbolizes the Holy Spirit. In the Bible, Jesus used certain animals to communicate, both literally and symbolically, with His people. One such creature was the dove, seen multiple times to communicate God's long-reaching presence, security, and the promise of guaranteed hope. 

It was a dove which returned to Noah's ark with an olive branch to show the flood was over. Doves are symbols of hope, that the situation we are in will be over at some point. It's seen as a sign of hope, peace, and harmony, all qualities desired in African cultures. 

Across cultures and religions, grey doves have long been seen as powerful spiritual symbols. These birds carry messages of peace, love, new beginnings, and divine connection, and the sight of two doves together is believed to intensify these meanings.

Some people believe a mourning dove's appearance to someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one may be a visit from the person who has passed. The person in mourning senses a message of hope or encouragement when they hear or spot the mourning dove.

Doves are a gentle reminder to help you get back into harmony and follow the flow of life. In the case of grief, seeing a dove may be a sign that spiritual love surrounds you. 

Having a dove nest within home is lucky and considered a positive sign in a few cultures.  Especially in Indian and Irish cultures, a bird visiting your home often means you are about to experience success and achieve prosperity.

In Christianity, a dead bird is often seen as a negative omen and a warning of impending disaster. It is associated with bad luck and can indicate the need for caution in decision-making. In Chinese and Japanese cultures, dead birds are considered to be a sign of ill fortune and hopelessness in the future.
