Gulkand, a sweet preserve made from rose petals, is known for its cooling properties and offers several health benefits including aiding digestion, reducing body heat, improving skin health, acting as a mild laxative, potentially helping with stress relief, and providing antioxidants due to its rich rose petal content; making it a popular remedy in Ayurvedic medicine, especially during summer months. 

Gulkand, made with rose petals and sugar, is believed in traditional Ayurvedic practices to help alleviate stress and anxiety by calming the nervous system and promoting relaxation.

  • Reduction of pitta and heat in the body. 
  • Reduction in eye inflammation and redness.

HOW TO CONSUME GULKAND

Directly: Eat a small spoonful of Gulkand on its own. 

In drinks: Add to water, milk, or yogurt for a refreshing beverage. Enjoy it as it is or as a natural sweetener for milk based drinks like falooda, thandai, lassi, rose milk. Make your own cool drink in summer with this rose jam and a pinch of cardamom powder in a glass of matka cooled water.

Desserts: Incorporate into sweet dishes like ice cream, kheer, or panna cotta. Add the cooling flavour your deserts like kheer, barfis and ice creams.  

Gulkand is believed to have calming properties that can help reduce stress, anxiety, and insomnia when consumed regularly.

Ancient Royalty and Aristocracy: Gulkand was used by royalty and aristocracy for its perceived benefits, and its history suggests a long tradition of appreciation for its potential to uplift the soul and enhance well-being, both physically and spiritually. 

Rose's Symbolic Association: The Damask rose, a key ingredient in gulkand, is associated with love, romance, and spirituality in many cultures. The rose's fragrance and beauty can evoke a sense of connection and awe, promoting a positive spiritual experience. 

Aromatherapy & Incense: Gulkand-scented agarbattis (incense sticks) are available, suggesting its use in creating a calming and fragrant environment for meditation, yoga, or spiritual practices. 

Ayurvedic Practice: Gulkand is considered a "Rasayana" or a rejuvenative herb in Ayurveda, and it's believed to calm the nervous system and promote overall well-being, which aligns with the principles of holistic health practices that are often linked to spiritual growth.  

HOW TO STORE GULKAND

Transfer Gulkand to a clean, airtight glass jar or container immediately after purchase. This helps preserve its freshness and aroma. Store in a cool and dark place. Keep the Gulkand container away from direct sunlight and store it in a cool and dark area, such as a pantry or cupboard. Exposure to heat and light can degrade its quality.
