OUDH REGIONS

Cambodia, India (comprised of several East Indian countries) and Thailand are perhaps the most internationally renowned origins, although agarwood also grows in Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Myanmar, China, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

Central to this trade was Oud derived from Agarwood. So precious is it, that it can be priced at up to $100,000 per kilo which is why it's often described as 'liquid gold'. It is also known as the Perfume of the Thousand and One Nights.

Today, oud is the base for some of the world's most exclusive perfumes. One of the primary reasons why oud is considered a luxury fragrance is its rarity and scarcity. The Aquilaria trees that produce the resinous heartwood required for oud are native to a limited geographical region, primarily found in the dense, tropical forests of Southeast Asia.

Its hefty price tag—higher per pound than gold—is due to its rarity in the wild as oud is only found in a small percentage of Agar trees. The result is that its perfume is an extremely precious commodity. When people search for “oud vs. gold,” they're often surprised to learn that real oud oil can be worth more than gold.

oudh tree

Unlike gold, which is a finite resource but can be mined consistently, oud depends on the rare occurrence of mold infection in Aquilaria trees and careful, sustainable cultivation.

Black oud is more potent and has a dominating spell, while white oud is a softer rendition.

White oud has a lighter, more delicate fragrance with sweet, woody, and sometimes floral or fruity undertones. Black oud is all about oud and rose, while white oud is all about oud and vanilla.

The ethereal aroma of white oud is believed to elevate the soul and connect the earthly realm with the divine, making it a cherished symbol of spiritual enlightenment and transcendence.  White oud is a popular choice for high-end perfumes where a subtler and more sophisticated aroma is desired.
